Feature: Puzzle Fun! Celebrating the
Best
Over the next few issues, we'll be preparing ourselves for the upcoming
season by highlighting the best of the best we've come across at faire.
Everyone in our puzzles can be found in our Faire
Folke section.
- Hanlon-Lee's Own: Sparky
The best jouster we've ever seen (closely followed
by all of the other H-L jousters, frankly). Taken at Wybreg
Village Fall 2000
- Shattock Schoole of Defence
The best swishy-pokey group ever! Are there
any others? Everyone else merely does live steel combat...SSD
takes it a step further! Taken at IRF 2000
- Ren Faire of the Midlands
The best first impression of a festival. We
love this castle facade! Taken at RFotM 1999
- Ethan James
The best hurdy gurdy player we've ever heard. Okay, you got us...we'd
never even heard of a hurdy gurdy until Ethan, but he sure makes
it sing! (Pictured with one of the Fairfield Players) Taken
at Wybreg Spring 2000
- Willa & John-Paul
Okay, okay...I have no idea what we're the best
of, but we're certainly one of the happiest rennie couples! Taken
at Wybreg Fall 2000
Every two weeks we are going to turn five of our
very own photos into a Java-based puzzle for you to solve! If you
have a suggestion as to a photo that would make a good puzzle, let
us know! To see past puzzles, go

Feature: Developing a Ren Faire Character,
Part 3 (Final Installment)
Lets review what we talked about it last two articles. As
we look back, we see that a character is built from a group of attributes
that distinguish or set apart. We learned in our first segment that
we need a soul to complete our character. We understood that to
achieve a quality character, we needed the depth that comes from
building a character with more than just what we can don
your accents, behavior and performance. We worked on a character-building
exercise as well as an exercise to create attributes. Now its
time to wrap it up. [more...]

Submitted Article: Sirona's Character Biography
This bio was written in great detail after Deb (Keirra's mother)
read Mark Davio's articles on how to develop a ren faire character,
Part One and Part Two. Yes, she did all of this just from answering
those questions! Of course, not everyone's bio needs to be quite
this detailed, but it's amazing how she managed to flow her bio
together with Keirra's. Bravo, Deb! Now we just need to get you
into that garb! [more...]

News: Upcoming Rennie Movies
This article was inspired by a commercial I saw today on tv for
an upcoming movie titled "Just Visiting". I was trying
to find out more about this movie and came across these other upcoming
movies (oddly enough) at UpcomingMovies.com!
Do you know of any others? Let us know!
We're also currently looking for an official AtTheFaire Movie Reviewer!
Do you want the job? E-mail
Willa (HINT TO LARISA). [more...]

Review: Willa's Got a New Fan!
No, no, no...an actual feathery fan! Not another male stalker.
Silly readers...
It was a strange series of events that lead to this wonderful fan
becoming mine. It had to do with an unexpected birthday check paired
shortly thereafter with an e-mail from a potential vendor for Wybreg
that I *had* to check out. I immediately fell in love with Janie
Topp's works of art! (It didn't hurt that she had orange feathers
in stock, either.) [more...]

News: RenRadio Wins!
As most of you who read AtTheFaire even every once in a great while
know, we are the hosts of RenRadio.com's web site. Because of this,
we plugged the hell out of the fact that RR was part of a St. Patrick's
Day contest for all Live365 stations that play Irish music. The
station with the most sustained listeners was to win $100 and free
promotional goodies. [more...]

Article: The Joy of Garb, Part One, Basics
& Skirts
I've been an historical costumer for 6 years now, and I've yet
to actually ever have enough garb. Why is that? What is this need
I have to constantly be making more?...No wench (or lady for that
matter) can have enough skirts. And they're very simple to make,
which makes it all that much better! I have purchased enough fabric
to make two new skirts (as well as a bunch of other stuff, but that's
for later columns). [more...]
