Nebraska's newest renaissance event is still looking for performers and street characters. If you get in touch with them, please let them know you saw it here on AtTheFaire.com.

FREMONT FAIRE UPDATE
by John-Paul, ATF Staff Writer

Here is a letter we received on July 23rd, 2001 from the organizers of the new Fremont Renaissance Festival in Nebraska. Since it is unlikely that AtTheFaire will be able to attend, we'd like to see if any of you might be interested in attending and providing us with a review and maybe some photos. If you are interested in contributing in this manner, just let us know! Thanks. -- JP

To One And All ...

I have some updated information to pass on. There may be a lot, so I hope you're ready for it.

First, I would need all to submit to me, either by e-mail or USPS, a mailing address and a number of performers per, so that we may deliver contracts. The performer contracts will be signed on an individual basis only. Parental signatures will be needed for performers under the age of 18. We need this information as soon as possible because we would heavily prefer if all contracts were returned with the postmarked date of 8-17. That only gives us about 3 weeks.

Second, those who would need help getting dress are now requested to find it before the Fremont Faire. There will be a costume check in the mandatory meeting before Faire. Also, before faire there will be a mandatory weapons check for all performers who portray armed characters. These aspects may be followed up at a later time.

Next, as always, we are still looking for more performers. As of right now, my count is only 10-12. So I can only hope at this point that some of you have knowledge of more people interested in working this faire, and they, as of yet, have not contacted me. Please urge them to do so, with the information needed to send contracts, so that we may expedite progress in getting more performers. Ideally we are still looking for 20-25 more street people.

I have recently been reasserted with the information that the Fremont YMCA (sponsor) wants this to be a historical faire. Thus, there will be no fantasy characters permitted. (Trust me, as an Elf, I feel your pain!) If you have any knowledge of certain areas of renaissance history, and are able to act on such knowledge, it is highly encouraged that you do so. This is being looked at as a faire of fun AND education, which hopes to pull in members of near by black, Hispanic, and other minority communities.

As a current run down, we do have some performances already lined up. We do have the SCA performing dancing arts and arts & science presentations. We also have some members of D'Enes doing battle presentations. We have Emerald Fyre as a stage performance group.

If you know of any other who may be interested in performing, the entertainment director is Tom Gill, and he can be reached at tohomas@hotmail.com.

Vendors are encouraged to contact Nick McDermott at eire1274@hotmail.com.

To reiterate some past information, the Fremont Family Fun Faire is scheduled for Sept 9 (Sunday), from 12:00-?. The Faire will be held at YMCA's Camp Christian in Fremont, NE. There will also be other YMCA family activities, including a duck race, also being held at Camp Christian. This IS a family-based faire, (and as a strong reminder) Smack-dab in the MIDDLE of the BIBLE BELT! Please make whatever changes may be needed to your character(s) so that nothing would be rated higher than (PG).

I believe that is all the information I have for you at this time. Once again, please spread word to anyone who may be interested. Thanks for your time, an I look forward to hearing responses from any/all of you.
