Yet another renaissance festival springs to life in the Midwest. As always, AtTheFaire wants to bring you the news as soon as we hear it.

NEW SOUTH DAKOTA FESTIVAL

A new renaissance festival is coming to Sioux Falls, South Dakota! The Siouxland Renaissance Festival will be held Father's day weekend in June 2002. The site location is still being finalized.

A public meeting (everyone welcome) will be held Tuesday, July 24th at 7pm at the downtown brand of the Sioux Falls Public Library. On Saturday, July 28th at 10am, an organizational meeting will be held at the same location.

We asked them how this all got started:

"...it started when I got asked too many times 'why isn't there a faire in SF?' when I was out and about in garb. I started testing the waters and got a few volunteers. Things really started rolling when Melissa got involved."

"We are in the process of completing the work to be our own non-profit organization. We want to sponsor the faire and hold educational programs. ... At some point will want to look at a permanent site and year round education programs. We are discussing supporting the food pantry by offering reduced admission with a nonperishable food item and we are also looking at making a donation to various groups for their help at the fair parking cars, dealing with garbage or working booths."
