Osceola Faire Information? Lately we've received quite a few e-mails asking for more information on the upcoming festival, "A Renaissance Affair" that is happening in Osceola, Iowa, this June. I'm sorry that we don't have more information to give you, but we did just get an e-mail from Rob Welch (after having sent him quite a few asking him for more information) to let us know that the first weekend that the fest was scheduled for (June 16 & 17) has now been cancelled. However, the festival had recently been extended to two weekends, and the second weekend (June 23 & 24) is still a go. If anyone has any more information on this event (such as performers or merchants who will be there), can you let us know? The Washer Well Wenches are scheduled to be there, but that's about all we know about the event at this point. Initially, that was going to be the end of the article, but I think I need to extend this a bit. I really wanted to stress that ATF wanted to help get this festival off the ground as much as was humanly possible. We're all for helping the new guys, and Rob has been a wonderful guy each time we've met up with him. <rant> However, I don't really understand why people won't let us help more (and I'm not just talking Osceola). It's almost like they fight it tooth and nail. I could sit here and name the various faire (who do need help) who outright refuse our offers of assistance. I know we're not some powerhouse on the net, but we do have an audience and we do have skills to offer that they obviously don't have covered. If we were here to make money on this deal, you'd be seeing a lot more ads and a lot fewer articles and free listings. We do this to help cover our addiction (meaning faire) and to spread the word about what is going on in the Midwestern faire world, as it is. We have worked really hard to make contacts and get to know all kinds of people so that we could be for you what we couldn't already find on the web...an information source. Let us do our job while you do yours. Keep us in the loop. PLEASE! </rant> |
