REN RADIO JOINS ATTHEFAIRE To prove just how much we love the rennie population of the world, AtTheFaire.com decided to do a public service that you all could truly appreciate. This past month, we donated web hosting services to RenRadio, an internet radio station that plays live-stream Celtic and renaissance period music. RenRadio's audio system is hosted by Live365.com, but the mastermind behind the music is Rengeek, also known in the mundane world as Michael McDane Harris. Rengeek, a 2nd generation rennie with 10+ years of faire addiction in his blood, started RenRadio for anyone with a reasonable internet connection (i.e. 24K and up) to listen to his collection of over 20 hours of faire music (Editor's note: If this article sounds a bit odd, it's because I'm listening to the station as I write!) Rengeek is a very generous man (I know this from experience), so we decided it was time someone was generous back at him! He keeps RenRadio alive with his own collection of CD's that he's purchased at the various festivals he attends. Since he lives in Texas and gets to travel quite a bit with his "real job", he's seen quite a scattering of faires! Back in 1999, I got the chance to meet Rengeek and his beautiful wife while attending the Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Texas. (Which, as a sidenote, was the year he was officially dubbed the Eliminator of Inhibitions for the International Wenches Guild due to his wonderful and bottomless mixed drink collection!) There's even proof of this fantastic occassion on his personal site, McDane's Tavern, which was so named in honour of Rengeek's father who passed away in 1993. So, if you are like me and find yourself yearning for some renaissance faire music while dallying around the house or working on your computer, tune into RenRadio...and let us know what you think! Welcome to the family, Rengeek! |
