REVIEW
OF THE METEA PARK RENAISSANCE FAIRE by Madeleine de Saint-Michel m/k/a Krista Powell The Metea Park Ren Faire in Fort Wayne, Indiana (September 23 & 24, 2000) was an excellent faire. Of course, I may be biased -- that's where I met my husband. I had never been to a Ren Faire before, and since laundry was piling
up at home, I decided to escape the growing piles rather than spend a
lovely day inside a laundromat. When I got to the faire, I was impressed
by the sights and smells (not to mention the jewelry merchants' wares...but
that's another story for another time). However, it was the people who
were fascinating -- everyone was obviously having *fun*. I decided to have my hair braided (and feeling very odd in my mundanes),
and as I sat down, an apple-juggling yahoo in garb starts randomly insulting
people at the top of his lungs. I decided to give him a taste of his own
medicine. After a few lung-busting Elizabethan quips, jests, and rude
comments of a personal nature, the barbarian (his persona *is* Irish,
after all) and I sat down and talked for hours. He proposed two weeks later and we were married four days ago. While
I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Metea Faire, I do have
a question: Does this sort of thing happen often to rennies, or am I just
plain lucky? Response from Willa: Girl! You are LUCKY! Not all the women in the world are blessed to have found their men via faire. You and I are just plain lucky women...I'll have to share the story of John-Paul's and my first date sometime... |
